If the problem is upstream—GFCI, transformer, relay, switch, automation or wiring—replacing the underwater fixture will not fix the real failure. Diagnose the system first, then upgrade when the fixture is confirmed failed, leaking, incompatible or obsolete.

Can an old pool light usually be converted to LED?

Often, yes. The correct replacement depends on the existing niche or fitting, voltage, transformer, cord route and control system.

Can I upgrade from white to color-changing lights?

Often, if a compatible fixture and control method are available. Multiple fixtures may also require synchronization planning.

Should I replace the light if it trips the GFCI?

Not automatically. A GFCI trip can be caused by a failing fixture, water intrusion, cord damage, wiring or another electrical fault. Diagnosis should come first.
